Le Borette is a farmhouse situated on an organic farm less than two kilometres from the historic town of Sarnano in the Monti Azzurri. The whole area is rich in history, art and legends with striking cultural and natural features set in one of the most fascinating landscapes in Italy.
Typical crops of the Marche are grown on the gentle hills around the delightful old towns of San Ginesio, Gualdo and Penna San Giovanni. Mostly hilltop settlements, like Sarnano, have preserved their historic urban layout. To the South the Sibillini Mountains rise up to over 2,000 metres and feature karst plateaus, deep narrow gorges and dolines (sink holes). In the Sibillini National Park, amid rushing streams and centuries-old woods, you can go in search of golden eagles, wolves, peregrine falcons and other local species testifying to a remarkably rich fauna and biodiversity. There are also many fascinating legends about these mysterious lands. Stories about the cave of the oracle Sybil and goat-footed fairies, or Pontius Pilate and the glacial lake of Mount Vettore, where the Roman procurator is said to have “washed his hands”. In short, here you can explore a spell-binding timeless world.
Accommodation at Le Borette is in an old farmhouse and a stone barn, completely restored while fully respecting the original features and the spirit of the place. On the outside, stones, bricks and old pantiles have been used in the ancient Roman construction technique of opus incertum, whereas inside the walls have rebuilt according to bio-architectural criteria.
Except for two discreet, highly functional new kitchenettes, the furnishings are made of original old items in the style of arte povera, tastefully restored to preserve intact their authentic antique feel.
